Yellow threads for Citrine

Are there colors that are difficult for you to use? For me it’s yellow. Yellow is my least favorite color. I have friends that LOVE yellow; frankly, I can’t understand it. I guess it’s because I don’t wear yellow (makes me look like a cadaver) and don’t decorate with yellow.

Blue is my favorite color. I think it should be everyone’s favorite color! I have to make myself not buy everything in blue. When I wear blue I feel happier. It’s definitely my color as far as skin tone, hair color (at the moment), eye color. I have a cobalt blue suit that is absolutely luscious. But yellow, not so much. I don’t think I have a single article of clothing in yellow.

So why am I about to undertake a solid yellow project? Good question! In my Glitz & Glamour series I don’t have Citrine, and I was specifically asked to design this as an addition to the line. I researched on-line for inspiration, since I also have no yellow jewelry. I found a gorgeous picture of a large citrine, which clearly showed the facets of the stone, and I thought I could spring board my design from those facets. Then I went into my many thread collections and pulled out yellow threads. Not every yellow goes with every other yellow; it requires some careful selection. So I gathered my threads, created the design and am ready to begin stitching.

I find that starting the stitching is harder than I thought it would be. I like the design, I like the thread textures, but I’m having a hard time embracing the color. I always advise stitchers to change the colors in designs if they want, because if they don’t like a color they won’t stitch the design. I’m finding that advice to be more true than I thought.

I will persevere. I think it’s a good design, I just have to get past the yellow!
