A shiny addition

Now we’re ready to move out to the corners! I started with an elegant stitch you may not know, a twisting star. The twisting stars are put together in a cluster to make a striking motif.

You can find the next part of the instructions here: Stitch Along part 12

All of the instructions so far are in the link, so if you haven’t been tempted to jump in yet, you’ll find everything you need in one place.

I chose a metallic for the twisting stars, because there just isn’t very much bling in the project yet, and I thought it would be great for stars!

This is the diagram for the twisting stars motif. One thing that’s fun about this stitch is that it involves no twisting or weaving; all the stitches are just laid in place. So even though it may look a little complex, when broken down into steps you’ll see how the stitch is built one step at a time.

When looking at the picture you may think it will be hard to figure out where to put the twisting stars, but the instructions give very detailed info on placing and stitching the twisting star motif.

I hope you’ll give it a try, whether you are stitching the stitch along or just doodling to see how much fun this stitch is!

I love this pattern! Thank you! I have not started it yet, but plan to. I would like to use the beautiful threads/colors you suggest and I have to order them. So it will take time etc. and would like to order the correct amount. How many skeins of each color thread should I order for the whole project. Do you know yet? Or should I wait a bit longer (until the project is all done and you know more) before I place my thread order? Thank you so much!

Thanks Korinna! I have actually finished the stitching and can’t wait for all of you to see the finished result. I did not use more than 1 skein for anything, so if you order your threads you won’t need more than one of each. If I could suggest, however – you may want to consider substituting other threads for the metallics. I was stitching from stash, so I had the metallics on hand: Kreinik #8 023 Lilac, 091 Star Yellow and 9194 Star Green. I also used a thread that may not be widely available yet, and used so little of it that you could substitute something else. The thread I tried was ColorSpun Nebula CS-XH-05; I suggest using one of the other metallics, or subbing with Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid PB06 Green or PH06 Christmas Green. I’d hate for you to pay shipping for just one thread that wasn’t used much! I’ll be posting a complete list of the threads I used in the blog later today. Thanks!

Hi Debbie – Thanks for the info on the Colorspun. I was having a difficult time until I came across your comment, I have one card of PB06 and one card of PH06 on the way (I hope). Will that be enough for do the Colorspun part of the design? Many of the threads for this project are on order. I have one that I haven’t found yet: ThreadworX #8 71126 Lavender. Will keep searching online.
        Thanks, Annette

Annette, I used very little of the ColorSpun, so one card of the other should be fine.
