Cheering for the home team!

When I was in high school I spent every Friday night at the football, waving my pompoms in support of the Lamar Mustangs. September’s Kit of the Month captures that memory, with footballs and pompoms.

Our school colors were blue and gray, but for the kit of the month I decided on a more generic white, red and blue. My college colors were blue and gold, my kids’ college colors were green and gold, and white and red, and the state universities colors here are crimson and cream, and black and orange. It would be hard to pick between all these options! Since the red, white and blue threads are cotton floss, it will be easy to swap them out for your favorite team’s colors, and add the kit threads to your stash.

Coming up with threads to reflect the texture of a football proved difficult, so I went with Rainbow Gallery Petite Very Velvet in V648 Very Dark Fawn and V602 White. I think I came pretty close! The football is stitched with a combination of woven plait, encroaching gobelin and straight stitches.

The border is multi-colored eyelets with cotton floss, to somewhat mimic pompoms. As a final touch, cotton floss is used to create pompoms to decorate the footballs. The cotton floss is Presencia’s 0001 White, 1902 Red and 3405 Royal Blue. You’ll get full skeins in the kit, along with full cards of the Rainbow Gallery Petite Very Velvet.

The kit also includes a line drawn 8″ x 8″ square of 18 ct. sandstone canvas, size 22 tapestry needles, and of course complete instructions. We also have a finishing kit available with the football printed cotton, so your finished project can look like the model.

We’ll be shipping the kits as soon as we can, but please be patient – “Mr. Debbie” is doing it alone while I’m teaching at EGA national and I’m not here to help with shipping.

Hope you’ll join us and support your favorite team for September!
