The infinite variety of falling leaves is captured in this mixed media project. A New Leaf employs canvas, stitchable cork, copper mesh and Ultrasuede in the design.
Teaching Objectives:
- Express creativity with stitches and placement
- Work with various thread textures
- Develop an ease in stitching that emphasizes the rhythm of the stitch
- Explore several different materials in developing the project
Several leaf stitches are worked with different weights of silk threads and ribbons, and appliques of Ultrasuede, foil embossed imitation leather and copper mesh are applied. All of the interior borders are variations of pointe de tresse stitch in different widths.
Stitches include point de tresse, gobelin, herringbone leaf, several leaf stitches, invisible applique, darning, and couching.
