The reverse side of stitches also form interesting patterns, and this project celebrates “The Flip Side”.
Teaching objectives:
- Discover how the backs of stitches create interesting patterns
- Work with various stitches and thread textures
- Develop an ease in stitching that emphasizes the construction of the stitch
- Learn techniques for starting and stopping threads
- Work from the back and the front of the canvas
Stitchers will apply Ultrasuede appliques in various areas, then stitch from the back of the canvas through the appliques so the reverse side of the stitches forms the patterns on the front. This is more challenging than one would think, and requires some thought to achieve without thread anchor points showing through.
Stitches include waffles, crescents, teardrop crescents, couching, double herringbone, sprat’s heads, chain stitch, fans, twisted cord, giant rice, 3 sided stitch, reversible cross stitch.
