Introducing our Kit of the Month 2022!

January Winter Star

Your enthusiastic response to our 2021 Kit of the Month encouraged us to continue this year, so announcing our 2022 Kit of the Month!

It took us a few days to finalize everything, so we were delayed in the announcement, but we should be on track going forward to announce on the first of every month.

A bit of info for this year, because we’re doing some things differently:

  • Each month will feature a large motif stitch, a border stitch and a background stitch – a sort of year long class in some of my favorite stitches
  • To encourage you to try some of these stitches, we’re creating videos, step by step, to show you exactly how to start and stop threads, then stitch the project. If you’ve never tried counted canvas, here’s a low-risk introduction!
  • Each project will be about 4″ square, and the kits include all the threads, canvas with taped edges, a tapestry needle, and the instructions. The instructions include written instructions as well as large diagrams for each stitch.

I’ve already laid out some of my favorite stitches for the year, and can’t wait to show you how easy these stitches are! I’ll be using different textures and types of threads, so maybe you’ll find some threads you haven’t used before.

January’s Winter Star is a 12 pointed star, with overlaid long stitches. Doesn’t it look complex? But it’s easy, and I give some tips for working this stitch so you can stitch it quickly and accurately. The border stitch is an interior border this time, an upright rice stitch in two rows, and the background stitch is Milanese.

I chose Rainbow Gallery Petite Silk Lame’ Braid in two colors, and Rainbow Gallery Panache for the star. The border and background stitches use ThreadworX hand overdyed cotton floss, #8 pearl cotton and #8 metallic braid, all in the same color, Ice Age. The star is stitched on 18 ct. mono deluxe Antique Blue canvas, to really set off the sparkle of the star. The complete kit is $35.

We’re doing some different things this year as well, which I’ll post about in the next couple of days – step by step videos on my DebBee’s Designs YouTube channel, a subscription plan, a display stand and of course the finishing kits again.

I hope you’ll like what we’re doing this year. Be sure to let me know if you have any questions!
