2026 is a big year for the United States, our semiquincentennial! That’s our 250th Anniversary, and we’re celebrating!
What better way to show your spirit than with Spangled, a large star stitched in red, white and blue, then spangled with gold metallic stars and gold ribbon. You can finish it as a pouch to wear, as shown, or as a stand up or framed to add to your decor, not just for the 4th of July but all year long!
* I’ve just been informed that the large pouch is no longer available. I apologize – I was acting on incorrect information. Colonial Needle has informed me that the same size canvas WILL fit in the tablet cover, backpack and display box. If you would like me to get any of these in for you please let me know by email and we’ll work out the details. You can see the other objects on the Colonial Needle website:Â Colonial Needle Lee’s Self Finishing products
Spangled features several small stitch patterns, so there will be lots of compensating! But don’t worry, every area is graphed out so you can stitch up to the edges. Then, the edges are covered with narrow gold ribbon, smoothing any gaps in the stitching.
The threads are DMC #8 pearl cotton and cotton flosses, with Kreinik #4 braid and 1/8″ ribbon. After stitching, scatter stars in 3 sizes over the white background to add some bling!
Kit contents include: 11″ x 11″ white 18 ct. mono canvas with taped edges; DMC cotton flosses and #8 pearl cotton; Kreinik #4 Very Fine Metallic Braid and 1/8″ ribbon; tapestry needles and gold metallic star embellishments in 8mm, 10mm and 13mm. (Note about the stars: they’re advertised as hot-fix, but I found it easier to use white acid-free glue to attach them.)
Students will need 2 pairs of 11″ stretcher bars with tacks or staples, and usual stitching supplies (scissors, lighting, magnification, laying tool). For attaching the stars, you’ll need a white acid-free glue (Aleene’s Tacky Glue or Elmer’s white school glue) or a hot-fix crystal tool.
This project is perfect for newer stitchers and experienced stitchers alike. Stitches include Hungarian, diagonal mosaic, mosaic, brick, horizontal Milanese, eyelets, round Rhodes, Jessicas, cross stitches and upright cross stitches. The ribbon is couched in place, and we’ll cover that as well.
