The mermaid conceals her treasure safely beneath a coral reef, then swims away to collect more. Her treasure is filled with gold and jewels, and surrounded by shells and sea creatures. A shaft of sunlight filters through the water to highlight the sparkling treasure, and catches a flash of her tail as she leaves.

The Mermaid’s Treasure features a canvas with painted backgrounds to provide depth to the stitches. Stitchers will place the mermaid’s tail where they choose, and further personalize the project with the embellishments and treasures.

What will you learn?

• Learn how to start and stop threads using pin stitches and loop starts, useful for every stitching project
• Emphasis is on developing a natural stitching rhythm, so you can stitch with more ease and enjoyment
• Make choices that create a unique project
• Shadow stitching and compensation to smooth transitions from one pattern to the next

The Mermaid’s Treasure is about 8″ x 8″ on 18 ct. canvas with painted backgrounds; canvas cut size is 14″ x 14″.

Kit contents:

• Painted 14″ x 14″ canvas with taped edges, 18 ct. mono deluxe French blue canvas with painted backgrounds
• Painter’s Threads in braided cotton, cotton floss, #4 and #8 metallic braid, single loop rayon; Painter’s Threads are hand painted or overdyed threads
• Rainbow Gallery Silk Lame’ Braid
• Dinky Dyes silk floss
• Assorted flat sequins, pearl beads, seashell sequins and seashells
• Size 22 Tapestry Needles

Students to supply 2 pairs 14″ stretcher bars with tacks or staples, usual stitching supplies.

Our online class includes:

• Weekly Zoom sessions on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. Central; Zoom sessions are a bonus and not essential for taking the class. All Zoom sessions will be recorded and added to a private showcase for class members only.
• Weekly lessons posted with diagrams in a dedicated groups.io classroom
• Video stitch demonstrations for creating the embellishments
• The Mermaid’s Treasure is being offered in conjunction with The Mermaid’s Tale for stitchers who would like to stitch both projects

Weekly lessons and Zoom sessions will provide additional information, and face-to-face time allows the opportunity to ask questions. Printed charts and instructions come with your materials.

• Class scheduled to begin May 7, 2024 for 4 sessions
• Class scheduled to conclude May 28, 2024

Supplies will be ordered at the conclusion of registration, shipping of kits estimated to be after April 15, 2024. If we experience delays in receiving supplies we will delay the start of class.

• Full kit – includes canvas with painted background and taped edges, all threads, needles, sequins, instructions book; access to Zoom sessions, class participation; all class fees and postage – $340 (anticipated shipping after April 15, 2024)
• Chart with painted canvas – includes canvas with painted backgrounds and taped edges, instruction book; access to Zoom sessions, class participation; all class fees and postage – $120 (will ship as we are able to prepare the canvas; you may add the sequin package if you like)
• Chart only – includes instruction book; access to Zoom sessions, class participation; all class fees and postage – $85 (will ship immediately; instruction will be given for painting your own canvas; you may add the sequin package if you like)
• Audit – for those who have previously taken The Mermaid’s Tale in another venue/online, nothing will be mailed; includes access to Zoom sessions, class participation – $55
