Boy, it’s been a minute since I had time to update the Stitch Along! But deadlines are behind me and I can turn my attention once again to stitching for fun!
This week I’m smoothing the shape to a diamond, albeit with some slightly smushed points, but it’s paving the way for the next part (which by the way is designed but not yet stitched, hope to share in the next couple of days). I chose a brick stitch, which is a wonderful background stitch.
You can find this addition in the instructions here: Stitch Along Part 4
If you’ve already started, the addition is pages 12-14. If you haven’t it’s all together for you!
Brick stitch is a great choice for a background because it’s small, interesting and doesn’t detract from the focal point of the design. I used 4 strands of Gloriana Mango Sorbet silk floss, and yes – it’s yellow! Side note – those who know me know yellow isn’t a favorite color so I rarely use it. But for this project I think it’s a good choice.
I use 4 strands for vertical or horizontal stitches, because these stitches don’t cover the canvas as well as diagonal stitches. You may want to strand up or down, depending on your thread choice. If you start with 4 and decide it isn’t covering enough, you don’t have to rip and start over – just add another strand in with the existing stitches.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this addition!
